A mass email sends one email to every contact on a Contact List, with each recipient's information merged into the template so it can greet them by name and personalize other fields. This article covers how to send or schedule a mass email using a Contact List and Email Template you already have set up.
What You'll Need First
This article assumes you already have a Contact List and Email Template ready to go.
Contact List - see How to Import Contacts or How to Manage Contact Lists.
Email Template - see Getting Started With the HTML Builder or How to Build a Text-Based HTML Email Template.
First time sending and starting from scratch? See Getting Started Sending Newsletters for a full walkthrough covering list setup, template creation, and your first send.
How to Send a Mass Email
You can start a mass email from the + button in the navigation bar, from Email Templates, from Contact Lists, or from the Mass Emails page. The steps below are the same regardless of where you start.
Click the + button in the upper right corner of the navigation bar.
Select Mass Email.
Click into the contact list selector and choose the Contact List you want to send to.
Click Preview Send.
Select your Email Template under the "Choose Email Template" dropdown.
Review the subject line and content, and make any final edits if needed. Edits made here are one-time and do not update the saved template.
Click Send Test to Yourself to preview the email in your own inbox before sending.
Click Send Batch Mass Email to send immediately.
How Do I Schedule a Mass Email for Later?
From the same send screen, click Schedule instead of Send Mass Email. Choose a date and time, then confirm. The mass email will go out automatically at that time.
Your scheduled mass emails can be managed / viewed on the Scheduled email page: Communication > Email > Scheduled
When Should I Use Advanced Mass Email Instead?
Advanced Mass Email sends one email per minute on a defined schedule instead of all at once, which is recommended for new or unverified lists. See How to Send an Advanced Mass Email.
How Do I Check on a Mass Email After Sending?
Every mass email you send appears on the Mass Emails page, where you can track delivery, opens, clicks, and issues like bounces and unsubscribes. See How to Use the Mass Emails Page.
Key Notes
The email count shown at the send step reflects contacts who are active for emailing, not the total list size. Bounced, unsubscribed, and suppressed contacts are excluded automatically.
If you select more than one Contact List and a contact appears on more than one, they will receive the email once per list. Deduplicate first using Create Segment - see How to Send to a Contact List and Create Segments.
Once a mass email is scheduled, changes made to the template after scheduling will not affect what goes out. To edit the template for a scheduled email, go to the Scheduled page and edit the scheduled email.
