How to Give Each User Their Own Landing Page Link in Social Posts

A landing page merge tag puts each user's own copy of an email template landing page into a shared social post. Here you'll learn how to create the merge tag, share it with your users, and what they see when they post.

A landing page merge tag lets you share one social template with your users while each user posts a link to their own copy of an email template landing page. You build the post once, and every user who posts it sends their followers to a page with their own info.

How to Create a Landing Page Merge Tag

The merge tag is the landing page's short link wrapped in percent signs. When a user posts, VipeCloud swaps it for that user's own version of the same landing page, so you never collect or type in each user's link. Start with an email template that has its landing page turned on - see Create Landing Pages with VipeCloud.

  1. Copy the short link of your email template's landing page. It begins with https://vipelnk.com/.

  2. Go to Templates under Library in the Community section of the sidebar.

  3. Click Create.

  4. Write your post in the Create Social Template panel.

  5. Click the tag icon below the post text to open Insert Social Merge Tag.

  6. Paste the short link into the Create New Social Merge Tag... field.

  7. Click the + button. The new merge tag appears under Click To Insert with an Email Template Landing Page badge.

  8. Click the merge tag to insert it into your post.

  9. Click Create Template.

To post the same message as part of a series of posts, add the template to a step in a social sequence.

How to Share the Template With Your Users

Share both the social template and the email template behind the landing page with the same team. We recommend one team for both, so everyone who can post the template also has the landing page it points to.

  1. On the Templates page, check the box next to your social template.

  2. Click the caret above the list of templates.

  3. Select Share With Teams.

  4. Choose the team and confirm.

  5. Repeat these steps for the email template on the email Templates page, using the same team.

What Your Users See When They Post

Your users find the template on the Shared With Me tab of their Templates page, or in a shared social sequence. The merge tag shows in the post text with percent signs around the link, and VipeCloud fills it in for them, so there's nothing to type for it.

  1. Start a post from the shared template, or launch the shared social sequence.

  2. In the Post Merge Tags Mapping section, find the landing page merge tag. Its field is already filled with the user's own landing page link and can't be edited.

  3. To check the page before posting, click Preview Your Personalized Landing Page.

  4. Fill in any other merge tags in Post Merge Tags Mapping, such as a party date.

  5. Post or schedule as usual.

If the landing page includes a sign up form, each user's page shows their own copy of the form. See How to Use Linked Sign Up Forms to give every user a copy of your form.

Key Notes

  • The merge tag works only with an email template landing page short link from your own account. Other links can't be filled in automatically.

  • In the template editor, the merge tag shows your own landing page. Each user's link is filled in only when they go to post.

  • Users don't fill in the landing page merge tag. Other merge tags in the post, such as names or dates, still need their values.
