hello everybody my name is Drew and

0:04

today we're going to talk about how you

0:06

can set up Google postmaster tools so

0:10

you can gain insights into how your

0:13

emailing uh is performing at least when

0:17

it comes to Google recipients all you

0:20

need for this because it is a free tool

0:22

that you can set up all you need is a

0:24

Google account of your own whether it's

0:26

a Google workspace account or it can

0:28

even be a regular Gmail account all you

0:32

need is that and then to place a couple

0:35

of authentication records on your DNS so

0:40

that you can prove to Google that you

0:42

are indeed the owner of that account or

0:45

of that that

0:46

domain and that's the main thing we're

0:48

going to walk through today is a little

0:49

bit of just why would you want to do

0:51

this and then also how to get it set up

0:55

and then from there um you will have

0:58

access to all this additional data

1:00

now what this will do is it will help

1:02

you to see what kinds of spam rates you

1:05

are running into when it comes to Google

1:08

recipients and it'll actually give you a

1:10

ballpark idea of what your real

1:14

world uh reput Center reputation is for

1:18

Google recipients which is a really

1:20

really useful thing to have in in

1:23

general this is not something that

1:26

everybody needs to set up it really is

1:28

typically people who who are running

1:30

into reputation issues that we recommend

1:32

set this up um or I guess you know if

1:34

you are a sender who has some concerns

1:38

about your uh likelihood of running into

1:41

reputation issues though of course it's

1:43

best just to uh avoid risky Behavior to

1:46

begin with so that is always our main

1:50

recommendation but um here let's let's

1:52

walk it through walk through how to get

1:54

this set up so first of

1:56

all in the uh on the help article itself

2:01

where we're going to be posting this I'm

2:03

G to have a link to this page right here

2:05

because it just makes it really easy to

2:08

uh click directly into postmaster tools

2:11

so you can see right here uh how you can

2:15

get this all set up so click here to

2:18

sign into postmaster tools it'll then

2:21

take you to this page right here where

2:23

where you'll see a list of any accounts

2:25

or of any domains that you have set up

2:28

you also if you already logged into your

2:31

Google account it'll probably prompt you

2:33

to do that I would recommend just

2:34

logging in first clicking on that link

2:36

it'll take you to this page from here

2:39

you got this plus button

2:41

to uh to then start walking through the

2:45

steps here um of course because we're

2:48

talking about DNS related stuff you're

2:50

going to need to log into wherever it is

2:52

separately that you have your DNS

2:56

managed for this domain that you're

2:58

going to be setting this up for

3:00

so we've got this over here a GoDaddy

3:03

account where we're going to be doing

3:04

this now of course on the DNS side this

3:08

might look a little bit different based

3:10

on whichever tool you use for managing

3:13

your

3:14

DNS but the logic will all be the

3:19

same so customer growth management.com

3:22

is what we're going to be doing this for

3:24

we're going to hit

3:27

next and then this tells us what we

3:30

should uh what we should do so we're

3:33

going to be adding this

3:34

txt

3:37

for for this right here I'm actually

3:40

going to do a c

3:41

name um

3:44

instead

3:46

and I'm going to

3:50

grab just this part right up to the the

3:53

dot and the reason for that is because

3:55

when you add a CN name it's going

3:58

to um it's going to assume in in most

4:01

cases it's going to assume the rest of

4:03

this for the actual domain itself so

4:04

we're just going to copy this go over

4:07

here add new record choose this C

4:12

name paste in what I just copied right

4:15

there you know right before the dot or

4:18

then it'll then just show you the rest

4:20

of this being your domain

4:23

name destination Target we're going to

4:26

grab this whole part right

4:28

here go over here put put that under the

4:34

value and then for the TTL not all

4:37

systems have a configurable TTL what

4:42

this means is basically how long it's

4:44

going to take at least as a maximum for

4:47

this record to become publicly

4:52

available and I'm going to go in here

4:54

and just choose that I'm pretty sure 600

4:56

seconds is the absolute fastest that

4:59

GoDaddy can do so I'm GNA just choose

5:01

that right there and there we go and so

5:06

what I would have done had I done a

5:11

txt

5:14

is you say this would then in that case

5:16

you I'll just walk you through what that

5:18

looks like so for txt you just put an at

5:22

symbol for your

5:25

domain which is going to be this it's

5:27

just going to point to that and then you

5:29

past the rest of this in that

5:32

value but I think C

5:35

names are a little bit more

5:36

straightforward so we're going to go

5:38

we're going to stick with that

5:41

so trash this we got our C name in there

5:45

going to hit

5:50

save continue and verify

6:00

all right there we go so I have added it

6:03

to the DNS here we don't see the record

6:06

just purely because I've got the other

6:08

records here filtered out but you

6:12

can ignore that right there we're going

6:14

to hit

6:21

verify and there we go this has been

6:23

added to our verified

6:26

domains and it's already seen it in fact

6:32

so there we go um so now we are if we go

6:36

over here to postmaster tools we click

6:38

in here we're actually we're able to

6:42

see the domain in question spam rate and

6:46

then here

6:47

are a whole bunch of reports that we're

6:50

able to see now this is a an example

6:53

domain so there isn't any sending to

6:56

report on here the main goal of of this

6:59

tutorial here is just to help you to get

7:01

this set up and less so to analyze

7:06

Google's reports here but you should be

7:09

able to find them to be pretty

7:11

straightforward and if you Google for

7:14

like how to how to read some of these if

7:15

you have questions then that should be

7:17

quite helpful and of course too if you

7:20

have questions just send us a screenshot

7:22

of like hey what are you know do you

7:24

have any recommendations here and if we

7:27

have any guidance we can give you we'll

7:28

be more than happy to do that but but

7:32

yeah I hope that this helps with your

7:35

with your sending and with managing any

7:38

uh any reputation issues that you might

7:40

be finding it is more important than

7:42

ever to keep your spam rates low and I

7:45

think that that's going to be one of the

7:46

most useful things you can get from uh

7:50

from this tool is being able to see when

7:53

those spams uh the spam reports hit you

7:57

of course our system does give you that

7:58

that that spam uh reporting as well um

8:03

but you can see what your reputation is

8:05

in general in uh in Google too so uh let

8:09

us know if you have any questions at all

8:12

about this and I hope you have a great

8:14

rest of your day thank you so much
