When a contact asks you directly to stop sending them emails or texts, you can manually unsubscribe them from their contact record, and re-subscribe them later if they want to opt back in. This is sometimes called a "do not contact", "no contact", "do not email", or "do not text" list.
Contacts can also unsubscribe themselves by clicking the unsubscribe link in a mass email, or by replying "STOP" to a mass text.
