Every Contact, Account, and Opportunity record is built from individual cards — Details, Meetings, Custom Fields, Notes, and so on. You can reorder these cards, collapse or hide the ones you don't use, and on desktop, arrange them across two columns so the information you check most often stays near the top.
How to Access Layout Settings
Go to Settings and click Customize.
Expand the object you want to configure (Contact, Account, or Opportunity).
Click Layout.
This opens the record layout page for that object — for example, the Contact Record Layout page.
This page has two tabs: Record Page, which controls the full desktop view, and Modal/Mobile, which controls the compact quick-view and mobile display. The two tabs are configured independently.
How to Reorder, Collapse, and Hide Cards
Click the Record Page tab (or Modal/Mobile, depending on which view you're configuring).
Drag a card up or down to change its order.
Use the first dropdown next to a card to set it to Default: Expanded or Default: Collapsed.
Use the second dropdown to set the card to Show or Hide.
Changes save automatically. No save button is required.
Hidden cards do not appear on the record at all. Collapsed cards still appear, but their content stays collapsed until a user clicks to expand them.
Recent Engagement is always expanded — it can't be collapsed.
How to Display Cards in a Two-Column Layout (Webapp Only)
This lives on the same Record Page tab covered above. Instead of leaving every card in a single top-to-bottom stack, you can place any card in the right-hand column so it sits alongside Recent Engagement near the top of the record. For example, moving Notes into the right column lets it display next to your communications and activity feed instead of further down the page.
On the Record Page tab, drag the card you want to move from the Left Column into the Right Column. Drag it back to move it out again.
Drag a card up or down within a column to change its order there.
Key Notes
This is desktop only. The Modal/Mobile tab keeps a single column, since that view needs to stay compact — its order is set separately from its own tab.
Add cards above Recent Engagement - putting them below will cause them to get buried.
Two-column placement is configured independently for each object. Setting it for Contact does not affect Account or Opportunity.
How to Apply a Layout to All Users (Admin)
This checkbox lives on the same record layout page, above the column table on both the Record Page and Modal/Mobile tabs.
Make the layout changes you want to apply.
Check Apply record page layout to all users?
Key Notes
Only admins can see and use this checkbox.
This pushes your layout onto other users' accounts, but only for users who haven't already customized their own layout.
If a user later makes their own layout changes, their record breaks away from the admin-applied layout. Once broken, that link can't be re-established — checking the box again won't override a user's custom layout.
Each tab has its own checkbox, and each object (Contact, Account, Opportunity) is applied independently.
Common Mistakes
Assuming a card is missing or broken when it's actually just set to Hide. Check the Show/Hide dropdown before assuming there's a bug.
Expecting "Apply to all users" to override a user who has already set their own layout — it won't, and the link can't be restored once a user breaks it.
